PhD Candidate

Raha is a 5th year PhD candidate in the History; Anthropology; Science, Technology, & Society (HASTS) program at MIT, and has been visiting with JTL since Spring 2023.  She studies governance of movement – that of data, money, and people – through the lens of work and its future. Her first project examines the intersection of governance and work by focusing on the Lightning Network, a Bitcoin-based experimental payment system. She uses ethnographic methods to research those operating “routing nodes” (supported by MIT Future of Work Initiative). Her second project turns to public transportation systems and how operational workers run and monitor transit operations in a transit agency.
